It's February!
One of the most glorious months of the year in my opinion.
Valentine's Day is one of the best excuses to wear red, pink, and purple, make and send homemade love notes, and be a dove all month long. Embrace it people. ♥
If you're having trouble embracing it, maybe these goodies will help.

1. Pink skinnies from H&M - threads for February.
2. Oversized purple sweater from H&M - threads for February.
3. Wildflowers - for this wild girl.
4. Heart-shaped sunnies from UO - threads for February.
5. High Beam by Benefit Cosmetics - easy-to-use highlighter.
6. Baby Lips by Maybelline New York - a must for this girl!
8. Be My Valentine Charlie Brown - classic Valentine's Day movie.
9. Sleepless in Seattle - Nora Ephron's classic Valentine's Day movie.
10. Van's classic white lace-ups - always a good choice.

A few things.

1) I'm still alive. Since I know SOOoo many people are concerned about that.

2) This girl crush of mine has decided to grace us with another album! And thanks to an impulse iTunes purchase, I've already been enjoying the fruits of her labors. Thank you, Brandi Carlile, for rocking so much.

3) My kid sister, Tibi, just graduated from HS last weekend. Congratulations to her! And it will be so fun to spend some more time with her! (We'll be invading Rexburg and showing that place what's up come fall. :)

4) Come one! Come all! To the best shave ice hut in the entire wewld! (You see, that's supposed to be an accent.) Truly. Amazing.

5) I've been called: sweetheart, darling, dear, princess and baby girl more today than possibly ever. All by total strangers. That was just nice. Aaaannd... somebody left me a 5 dollar tip today. And it wasn't even a guy trying to hit on me. Just a girl that was feeling generous. Booya Monday. I win this time.

I Miss The 90's!
On Saturday night I attended a campus event called Grand Pianos Live. I usually never go to events that aren't free, but when I saw that it was a tribute to the 90's, I was so. there. Even if it did cost $3. I actually happened to be wearing a 90's inspired outfit that day, and I fit right in with the fresh vibe of the music. I got a free glo-stick when I walked in and when I looked at the program I was happy to see that Wonderwall was on the program. That was basically my only expectation. Totally delivered before the show even started. Favorites of the night included: the prelude of 90's hits playing, one of the performers names was actually Zach Morris - no joke, a performance of Michael Bolton's Go The Distance, and a performance of Oasis's Wonderwall. I was shocked to hear no Nirvana, but all in all it was a wonderful evening full of inspiration. It got me thinking of the 90's. I thought I'd just remind myself of some of the things I miss.
In no particular order
and just to mention a few ->
1. Frutopia - What ever happened to this drink? There is no way it didn't have enough business with me on the loose.
2. Music - The music in general. Third Eye Blind, Soundgarden, Counting Crows, Spice Girls, The Cranberries, Sister Hazel, Beastie Boys, Robbie Williams, Sugar Ray, Sarah McLachlan, Toad and the Wet Sprocket, The Breeders, R.E.M., Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, The Verve, Smashing Pumpkins, TLC, Chili Peppers, and the list goes on and on.
3. Birkenstocks - I'd still rock a pair of these. I pulled this look off many times. Birkenstocks, sometimes with a pair of socks, plaid boxer looking shorts, and a tee.
4. Lisa Frank - Of course you had to have a Trapper Keeper to keep all of your Lisa Frank stationary in as well. Loved it. Still do. I currently have two Lisa Frank folders that I use for school.
5. Awesome TV Shows - Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Bouncing Gummy Bears, Saved by the Bell, Step by Step, Boy Meets World, Kids Incorporated, TGIF, Seinfeld,  etc.
6. Overalls - More fashion. One strap down? Yeah, I totally did that sometimes.
7. Amazin' Fruits - Where did these go?! Best gummy bears ever. And they had the best commercials.
8. Fashion - Okay the fashion in general. I don't care what anybody says, the fashion was so great.
9. Stick-On Earrings - I loved these. Especially the hearts. I would still wear these actually.
10. MST3K - Myster Science Theater 3000. So funny. If you haven't experienced this, I'm sorry. Tom Servo has got it goin' on.
11. Top 20 countdown and TRL - My sister would tape MTV for me (on VHS of course) and I loved watching those shows. Back when Carson Daly was almost cool.
12. Clean Chick Flicks - Back when chick flicks were the best movies made, had zero nudity, zero sex scenes, and zero crude humor. Sleepless in Seattle, Sabrina, While You Were Sleeping, You've Got Mail, etc.
13. Looking like this and it being totally acceptable - I never did my hair. Thank you Marc Jacobs.
14. Making Mixed Tapes and Listening to Them in This Walkman - I loved doing this. I was so cool.
15. These boots - I loved these so much I had two pair. Seriously.
16. Suburbans - Ours was probably a product of the 80's, but these were popular and I loved this thing.

What do you miss about the 90's?

Wednesday, October 26

Today is the day.
I usually at least wait until after Halloween is over, but with THIS BABY out I just can't resist. I started listening to Christmas music today. That's right. No, no, you're not mistaken, it IS October.
In my defense, I got into the family car a couple of months ago to run an errand for somebody and what do I hear? O Sing Choirs of Angels by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir happens to be playing in the cd player. In August! Mother....?
Here is a picture that will make organized people think, "this must be Michaela's sick idea of organization" and disorganized people think, "well I guess Michaela needs to blow off some OCD steam.."

Well, you're both right. It's actually me trying to work out my schedule for winter 2012. Too bad for you you can't hear the wind whistling outside, Bing Crosby singing some jolly tunes or smell my creamy, bacon, potato soup. I'm tellin you guys... Winter is coming. And I'm listening to Christmas music tonight. So there.

Friday, September 9

When finals week was over, I headed to SLC to spend a couple of days with my sister Kira before going to Logandale. I had car trouble all the way down. It was all great timing since I was driving down during the hottest part of the day with no air conditioning, not to mention I was on a time schedule. By the time I got to Kira's (well, around the corner and down the street because my car wouldn't quite make it) I was so frustrated, sweaty and upset that all I wanted was a shower, a drink of water and a good cry. Luckily, Kira came and saved the day. She took me to a Fleet Foxes concert! It was amazing! My favorite band at my new favorite venue. It was at the Red Butte Gardens Amphitheater. The weather was perfect, the surroundings were beautiful and the sound was amazing. Easily one of the best, if not THE best, concert I've ever been to. We snacked on Cracker Jacks, relaxed in the cool grass and rocked out with the hippies a bit. Great concert. Thanks Kira!
This is the Red Butte.
This picture was actually from the Ben Folds concert, but you get the idea.

Thursday, July 21

Guess who got to see Ben Folds pound his keys in SLC?!?
ME!!!
And it rocked. Seriously. Rocked.

This guy has been on my bucket list for a while, so when I saw he was FINALLY touring in the States and would be in SLC I jumped at the chance and went with my sister, Kira. It was a ton of fun to hang with her and the concert totally delivered. I was stoked to hear so many of my favorite songs of his. And I was even more stoked to have him direct me and the rest of the audience. I've always wanted to be a part of that and now, I have been! And it was awesome. Here is a video of it that totally takes away from how cool it actually was, but that's okay.

Some of my faves that Ben graced us with:

Gone
Annie Waits
Still Fighting It
Gracie
Hiroshima
You Don't Know Me

Easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Also, who ever thought a Ke$ha song could ever be anything but total trash?
This was pretty funny:
